Layoff Protections
UWOTC-CWA is seeking layoff protections for our members. Corporations are often short-term profit seeking entities beholden only to shareholders. We believe that this is detrimental to the health and well-being of our workforce.
We’ve seen Hasbro-wide layoffs impacting Arena workers despite Arena continuing to be profitable. Workers should not have to fear wide-sweeping layoffs at the whim of corporate executives trying to pump up short-term balance sheets.
While we understand that companies sometimes need to shift their focus and structure to adapt to changing business needs, workers should have insulation from these decisions. Workers should have protections against terminations without cause and should be able to depend on a clearly defined severance policy, that does not change on a whim, alongside advanced notice that gives them a softer landing if they should be impacted by a layoff.
When workers aren't living in constant fear, they're better able to focus on producing quality work. We intend to seek layoff protections as well as severance packages to give workers dignity and safety and to promote a better work environment for all.
