We are the workers behind Magic: The Gathering Arena (MTG Arena), operating in partnership with the Communications Workers of America (CWA). United Wizards of the Coast represents the collective labor of over a hundred game designers, programmers, producers, artists, QA, and more, and our aim is to ensure strong labor protections for the people who bring our game to life.

MTG Arena is a vital part of how the world engages with Wizards of the Coast products. The workers who make our games can and should be treated better. Our aim is to show that to the world through our union efforts. We are building the game industry we want to see in the world. So whether you're a worker, a player, or someone who wants to see better conditions for all: Welcome! We're here to make things better.

Mission Statement

United Wizards of the Coast recognizes the massive influence of Hasbro and WOTC's games and seeks to empower employees to work on high-quality games and projects that promote the ideals we stand for. We believe that, through our collective power, we can bring about better working conditions for ourselves and the industry at large. United Wizards of the Coast is just one of an ever-increasing number of union efforts in the gaming world. We are not the first to fight for our rights, and we will not be the last.

We are worldbuilders, storytellers, artists, game makers, and creative technicians and we are passionate about the work we do. To continue creating the game so many players enjoy, we must make changes to how we are treated as employees. Unionizing is how we ensure that we the workers are adequately protected, compensated, and have a say in the future of the company we have made so successful. We pledge to put the wants and needs of our membership at the forefront of our bargaining.

Our Goals

• Improve the conditions of Wizards of the Coast employees: United Wizards of the Coast seeks to address unfair decisions like forced RTO, severe pay discrepancy, forced AI use, ongoing unaddressed crunch, and more, by creating better protections for workers and a structure to advocate for our labor.
• Be industry leaders in worker's rights: We know workers can and should be treated better, so let's show that to the world through our union efforts. By establishing fair treatment for workers, United Wizards of the Coast hopes to encourage and catalyze future worker-focused efforts across the industry. This necessitates a statement of neutrality from WOTC and Hasbro toward unionizing efforts.
• Create better games that do good in the world: United Wizards of the Coast recognizes the massive influence of WOTC's games. We seek to empower employees to work on high-quality games and projects that promote the ideals we stand for.

Our goal is to protect our workers and their labor. We know it is possible to make great games without mistreating employees. This has been repeatedly demonstrated by recent union efforts across the industry. Our demands, drafted through the collective will and solidarity of our members, aim to preserve our rights and wellbeing as workers. This is our chance to take power back, delivering it to the people who make and support MTG Arena, not the ones who simply profit off of it.
